What to DO after a car accident, and what NOT to do: important post collision instructions! Auto Accident DOs and DON'Ts:
- Remain calm and composed
- Check and assess the auto damage
- Check and assess human injuries injuries, if any
- Call the police and file a car accident report
- Take photos if at all possible - most cellular phones are now capable of doing this
- Exchange contact information with the involved party and get contact information for all drivers, passengers and witnesses of the car accident
- Call your auto insurance agent, attorney and/or another qualified professional - make sure there's people on your side. If filing a car insurance claim, it's important to get started as soon as possible - preferably on the DAY of the accident itself.
- ONLY discuss the details of your car accident with law enforcement and those who are helping you in an official capacity - the police, your attorney, your auto insurance agent, a trained CarMedix professional, etc.
- DON'T talk about the car accident specifics with witnesses, the other involved party, or with ANYONE - except law enforcement and those who are helping you in an official capacity. That may include: the police, your lawyer, your car insurance agent, and/or a CarMedix trained professional.
- DON'T sign anything you're presented - make sure you read it AND either your lawyer or car insurance agent takes a look at it first
- DON'T admit fault or liability lightly - it's easily done but not as easily undone
- DON'T use threats and DON'T get violent (obviously)
